| Career Connection |
| Career Connection is a great career and job search group in the Dallas Metroplex area. They have helped tens of thousands of people over the years find themselves and the next career move. While not a charity, the costs are very reasonable $10 to join, $10/month and they offer programming, jobsearch help, some counseling, and even a cup of Joe. The goup meets 10-12AM Tuesday Mornings (9:00 for newbies orientation) @ Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church (Don't worry no one is going to make you pray).

| Dennis writes a blog for the talent aquisition portion of T-Mobile.
Yes he is a company flack, but he is a good kind of company flack.
(And no, I am not trying to suck up to him for a fee account, job, or even the latest phone, although I would accept all 3).

| IMA Meeting |
| Tuesday, May 22, 2007 |
I had the pleasure of attending my first IMA meeting this evening. What a great program they put on today. The pre-meeting was a presentation by Jessica L. Loughran from Monster.com. She put on an extremely useful presentation. I learned a lot and I will take away a number of great ideas from it to use in my search.
It seems I have been out of the search market for only a short time, but there were a number of new tools (at least to me) Jessica presented. I am looking forword to using some of these items. (Jessica, if you are reading this, please send me a soft copy of the presentation... Thanks)
The second presentation was by Brian Dodge. What a captivating speaker. He really put on a great presentation. I reccomend if you get a chance to catch him giving his presentation, catch it.
On a personal note, I want to thank a few people who made me feel very welcome tonight.. Incoming IMA President Jimmie Smith, all of my tablemates, and those members of the search community that sought me out. Thank you all!!!
Onr last thing, I am looking for anyone who has recently passed the CMA, I am looking for some guidance on taking the exams. If you have taken it recently, please drop me a line... I just need a small amount of your time.Labels: Accounting, CMA, Dallas, Finance, Finance Director, IMA, Plano |

| Taking Off |
| Tuesday, May 15, 2007 |
Last night I sent out the following letter to a number of my networking friends and cohorts. I have recived a much better response that I could have imagined.
Dear Friends,
Most of the time we get a quick note from one person or another announcing that they have landed. Usually it is some time since we last heard from them and we may not even have know that they were in the midst of an active job search. In fact it was just in November that I sent out a landed notice to you about my returning to the world of employment at SOURCECORP.
Today I get to do the opposite of sending a landed notice, I am getting ready to resume an active search. SOURCECORP has decided to outsource about 15 accounting and financial positions to an organization in India. Since my Hindi is a bit weak, and my relocation status does not quite stretch that far, I am once again making myself available to the market. I am looking for a Director or VP level finance position where my FP+A, retail, and supply chain skills can best be employed. While I would rather stay in Dallas, I am open to relocation to many major metro areas.
If you become aware of an opportunity that you think might be a good fit, please do not hesitate to call me or pass it on to me. I will stay with SOURCECORP until the transition is complete in Mid July, my management team is willing to be somewhat flexible should something happen sooner.
Also, there are a number of A/P, and Staff and Sr. Accounting people who are also looking for positions, I will be glad to pass on names or resumes if you are in need of their skill sets.
I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Warmest regards,
Jim

The responses and offers for help were and continue to be genuine and sincere. To those of you who already responded, I thank you for your support. If we all work together, perhaps we can shorten these periods of unemployment for the folks walking out the door with me. (I expect to be out there a little longer.)Labels: Accountants, Accounts Payable, Finance, Financial Director, Financial Planning, FP+A |
