Career Connection
Career Connection is a great career and job search group in the Dallas Metroplex area. They have helped tens of thousands of people over the years find themselves and the next career move. While not a charity, the costs are very reasonable $10 to join, $10/month and they offer programming, jobsearch help, some counseling, and even a cup of Joe. The goup meets 10-12AM Tuesday Mornings (9:00 for newbies orientation) @ Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church (Don't worry no one is going to make you pray).

  • Dennis Smith
Dennis writes a blog for the talent aquisition portion of T-Mobile. Yes he is a company flack, but he is a good kind of company flack. (And no, I am not trying to suck up to him for a fee account, job, or even the latest phone, although I would accept all 3). Alittle History
    Wednesday, July 26, 2006
I guess I should give a little history here.

Until the 15th of June I was employed by my latest employer 7-Eleven, Inc. I was a Category Planning Manager where I was responsible for about a $2.4 Billion segment of the store revenue. My categories included all of tobacco and all non-food items except financial items like gift cards, money orders etc. (Please no comments about the food items not being edible and should have fallen in to my categories). SEI decided to make a number of changes including reducing OSG&A to try and make revenue and gross profit better match the ratio's (and bottom line) that they had promised to the parent corporation.

In a sense, they allowed me to make myself available to the market once again!

As security walked me out the door without even getting a chance to go to the mens room and relieve myself, I knew I had better get my buns working quickly.

I was home shortly after noon and by 5 PM I was contacting my friends, search firms, and others to share in my great opportunity.

I had a quick start... a few promissing opportunities, but then the summer duldrums set in. 4th of July week and summer vacation.
