Looks Like I am not the only One

The last time I was out searching for a job, It was the Sally Forth Comic Strip that had someone out of work, now it is Non Sequitur that has some one out.

I guess it just goes to show you, that everyone gets his or her turn.

I can't remember who to attribute this to, but some one said there were two kinds of Sports Coaches, those that had been fired, and those that will be fired.

    Hope you enjoy the comic.

See you in the Funny Pages!!

One Door Closes & Another Opens (Hopefully)
    Tuesday, April 01, 2008
As it is often said, All good things must come to an end. Of course there is also the corallaries to that in All bad things must come to an end, All bad things must have a start, and the most hopefull All good things must have a start.

What does that have to do with anything... well as of Friday, I transitioned out of NBC and KXAS Channel 5 in Dallas. To say the least, it was not going the direction I had hoped it was going to go, and with all of the issues, problems brought on by circumstances some within our collective control and some beyond (writers strike, market issues, etc) it probly was not going the direction the station wanted it to go either.

Well, I guess I just found the time and motivation to revive this Blog, write about my experiences in finding the next great thing, and how I will keep it together in the interim.

I stepped out of my position not having something to go in to, no real design and plan of what to do next, but confident in my abilities to survive, come up with my next role, and determine where to make changes in my life, and lifestyle. I have some ideas, a lot of great friends that I keep making along the way, somehow we will all figure it out.

Today my blog entry will be a little short, I have had a full day of restarting my association with Career Connection. I need to some job search foundation work, spend some time thinking and getting my life in order. I need a little time to decompress and re-orient myself for the tasks ahead.

Look forward to more to come.

    What a pain
    Saturday, February 09, 2008
I find that quite often I have to bring work home in this position and work on it either overnight or over the weekend. However, I am really angry this evening.

I got everything ready to work this evening, went out to dinner, came back and the system I needed is not available for use. It is not available on Sunday anytime. I will now have to get up at zero dark thirty on Monday morning to try to complete the tasks I need to complete.

    I hate this system.

In other news I had a reasonably good day working on my car. I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with a lot of bells and whistles. The seat heaters stopped working about a year ago and I finally pulled the seat apart, worked on some of the connections and now it is working once again. With my luck the cold weather is done for the year... but there is always next year.

Now the next thing I need is to fix the front verticle lift motor on the drivers seat. Actually the motor still seems to work, but the gearing appears to be broken. I fear this small part will require me to buy the entire power seat contraption. I see the big $'s leaving my pocket and going to some underserving fat cat dealer.

So much for now, now I need to look in the salvage yards.

What Happened Why all these cobwebs
    Saturday, January 19, 2008
Well, I guess I never got back to the blog. On July 13, I left for a needed rest in the mountains of Colorado, but before I left I was asked to stay on at Sourcecorp for a short time longer. A chance to clean up some files and continue working with my international intern.

About the same time KXAS (NBC owned and operated station in Dallas/Fort Worth offered me the position of Manager of Pricing and Planning. I accepted the position and started in the begining of August, where I continue to be .

Happy endings for me at this point.

From the perspective of what I am doing... I was dropped in the deep end and I have learned to tread water without drinking too much of it on the way. It has been a bit of a death march, some of my own doing, but I am trying to learn a whole new industry and take on a position of Agent of Change and a business leader at the same time.

Start looking for me to keep the cobwebs off this blog and bring it back from the dead. Perhaps I may start a new one and allow this the topic and thread to die.

I'll let you know what I decide.

    5th Round
    Tuesday, July 03, 2007
Believe it or not, I got called in for a 5th Round interview. This interview was a 2nd go around with the first person I interviewed with. This has got to be the most times I have ever been in to see a company, even with companies I interviewed with multiple times over a number of years.

I no longer know what to think. Are they having that hard of a time making a decision? Is there something in my background that is making them nervous? Are there other candidates that make the competition that close? Do I really want to work there after this ordeal and marathon?

Well 4th of July is almost here and a welcome break in the routine. I am really enjoying what I am doing right now, I have an Intern from Tunisia and I am teaching her about US business, and specifically about SOURCECORP. She is extremely bright, energetic, a willing listener and a quick study. I am sure when she returns home after this US State Department sponsored trip she will one day be a financial leader in her country.

On a final note, as we follow the saga of Ted and Sally, I hope you enjoy today's cartoon. I know what it is like to fall in to that mode. It is hard to stay motivated sometimes. Been there, done that, got the obligatory T-Shirt and Picture with Micky to prove it.

    4th and Final Round
    Thursday, June 28, 2007
Last Friday, I had a fourth and what has to be the final round of a marathon interview schedule with KXAS NBC TV5 in Dallas. This time I had the pleasure of meeting the President and GM of the Station as well as the main HR person in the organization.

I would think at this point I should be the likely candidate (why would you drag more than one person through 4 interviews with 9 different people). However, I seem to be getting some double speak from the HR folks that there are multiple other candidates out there.

Are they for real? Are they just messing with my head?

I guess the real answer I need to do is not focus on them and develop other better opportunities for myself, and push on them more.

Right now Plan B is looking promising and we are closer to making that a reality. Based on what I have heard from the others, launch could be imminent and I could be off to the races in short order.

Plan C with another organization is in the works, and I need to double back and push on that one. I think there is a great opportunity for me there. I just need to make it happen.

Otherwise all is not dead yet. My current position my hang in there for a short time longer than expected as things have not come together as quickly as they had expected. I am still planning on taking a week off and going to Colorado. I need to get a clear head and welcome break from where I am today.

3rd Round Complete. Will there be a 4th?
    Friday, June 15, 2007
I had my 3rd round of interviews today and I think it went all right, but then I am never sure.

I think the person I interviewed with this morning and I can work together, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with them. I think she was a little surprised that this was a 3rd round and but I hope she feels she is going to get her say.

On another note, when I signed in this morning, I noticed there were not a lot of visitors that had signed in since I was last there, I get the feeling that I am either the only candidate remaining or maybe have been the only candidate. I could be wrong and they maybe interviewing other candidates at the other location in Ft Worth, but since the job would be located in Dallas, I question that.

Hey found this great cartoon from Dan Pirarro I hope you enjoy it. Have a great weekend!!!
